Continuing Capacity Development Efforts in Atlantic Canada: Fredericton Hosts PVE Training Workshop
Building on the momentum created by the Prevention of Violent Extremism (PVE) capacity development workshops held in Charlottetown (Prince Edward Island) and Halifax (Nova Scotia) in March 2026, CPN-PREV, in collaboration with the Canada Centre for Community Engagement and Prevention of Violence, continued its efforts in Atlantic Canada by offering a two-day interdisciplinary training workshop in Fredericton, New Brunswick, on June 18 and 19, 2026.
To date, more than 120 practitioners and professionals across Atlantic Canada have participated in these two-day capacity development workshops, reflecting a growing regional commitment to strengthening prevention efforts and cross-sectoral collaboration.
The Fredericton workshop brought together 43 participants from diverse sectors and organizations engaged in prevention, intervention, and community safety. To ensure that the training reflected local realities and priorities, a preliminary online landscaping workshop with practitioners based in New Brunswick was held in May 2026.
The two-day training is an interdisciplinary program co-designed by 23 professional organizations and draws directly from the vPiP Onboarding Manual, a practical resource collaboratively developed by members of the Partnering in Practice (vPiP) network. The workshop adapts the knowledge, tools, and practices contained in the manual into an interactive learning experience aimed at strengthening practitioners' capacities while fostering cross-sectoral collaboration and relationship-building among professionals working to prevent violent extremism.
CPN-PREV is grateful for the opportunity to learn with and from the many organizations playing a critical role in preventing violent extremism in New Brunswick, including:
Domestic Violence Association of New Brunswick
Engaging Matters Diversity Consultants
Horizon Health Network
John Howard Society of Ottawa
Le Centre de Prévention de la Violence de Kent
Multicultural Association of Fredericton
Office of Women and Gender Equity of the Government of New Brunswick
Partners for Youth

The Department of Justice and Public Safety of the Government of New Brunswick
The Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour of the Government of New Brunswick

The rich conversations, reflections, and participants’ desire to remain connected beyond the training underscored the importance of creating spaces that foster new practices, relationships, and collaborative responses to violent extremism. Through the Partnering in Practice (vPiP) network, CPN-PREV looks forward to supporting ongoing and future PVE efforts in New Brunswick and across Atlantic Canada.
Finally, CPN-PREV warmly thanks its interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral team of facilitators from the vPiP network, which connects practitioners from leading organizations engaged in the tertiary prevention of violent extremism. Their expertise, generosity, and commitment continue to strengthen prevention capacities and collaborative practices across Canada.
