Towards a Shared Vision to Safeguard Youth and Community Safety from Hate and Violent Extremism in Halifax: A Multidisciplinary and Intersectoral Approach to Strengthening Youth Resilience

Facilitated by Ghayda Hassan and Zeina Ismail Allouche, the workshop was an initiative of the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) Department of Community Safety, the Canadian Practitioners Network for the Prevention of Extremist Violence (CPN-PREV), and Public Safety Canada’s Centre for Community Engagement and Prevention of Violence (CCEPV).

The workshop brought together diverse local stakeholders to explore the current landscape of PVE efforts, with a focus on enhancing collaboration and identifying actionable solutions. Through a participatory process grounded in anti-oppressive principles, participants shared insights on the wealth of existing projects, the unique challenges facing youth-focused PVE initiatives, social tensions, barriers to cooperation, and resource gaps. Opportunities and priorities for action were also identified.
